The three newbies go on a field trip mission this time. Apologies, but the filesize grew again this time. Since we encode using a constant quality setting, the more stuff that happens in the episode, the larger the file gets. There’s not much we can do about it besides dropping the quality (which isn’t a great idea). Feel free to leave your thoughts on this in our comments.
PS – As always, both the non-honorifics and with-honorifics versions are included.

Thank you so much guys! I’ve been waiting for you guys to release this episode and really worth the wait! Don’t worry about the file size too.
Just watched the 4th episode and the 5th is out, thanks for the release! ^o^
Thanks for the ep and don’t worry about the filesize just focus on the quality, love your releases!
TQ…………………….
Great job………………………….
Keep up the good work………………………….
Thanks!
I don’t care about file size, keep up the good work guys.
Great release! Nekomimi is one of my favorite fansubbers! Keep up the good work guys :)
can you tell me what application you use for the styling of the subs?
Aegisub. Everyone uses Aegisub.
Sorry but I do care about the filesize (not like it matters). Would it be possible to use a VBR instead of a CBR? That’s supposed to make smaller filesizes right? And not everyone has HD space to store 500MB for each episode. That’s almost the size of a DVDRIP full length feature film, and I already know seperate XVID/H264 releases won’t come around.
Aside from all that, thanks for the episode. ^_^
Thanks for yet another episode!
Don’t worry about the filesize. I’d rather have bigger files than lower quality video.
I have seen Dark shikari say on forums that crf 16 is low so i definatly wouldn’t mind 18….but that’s probably just me.
The fact that you guys have far superior quality compared to other groups is the reason that people are willing to wait for releases. The larger filesize is not an issue at all. Keep up the good work you guys. :)
Thanks for the great work. Not that I particularly mind the file size but my experience is that quality does not dramatically suffer when using Variable Bit Rates. This could help keep the file sizes a little smaller.
Thanks again! :D
And I for one don’t care about file size. I don’t have 5Tb of storage for nothing
CRF (constant rate factor) IS Variable Bitrate…
Most fansub groups use 2-pass encoding with a set average bitrate. It’s variable bitrate too and you always get the same file size this way, but for episodes with complex motion/more action, you get less quality…
On the other hand, CRF implies Constant Quality: the bitrate changes according to the complexity of the scene and of the totality of the episode to obtain a set quality level, so it’s definitely not CBR (constant bitrate)!! CBR is ugly (ie too much bitrate in stills and not enough in action scenes) and should never be used.
tl;dr: Keep using CRF. With current encoders it’s the best (but maybe CRF 18 would be enough).
thanks heaps!
Keep it up. Every byte is worth it… Thanks for the release.
thank you, sir
sir, i think you just keep the quality and only think about keeping the quality, about the size i don’t think it would be a problem..it show how hard you guys working the subs as anime fan for fan..
(well that’s my opinion..ps sorry if my engerish is suck)
Thank you for the episode.
Would you consider doing an ordered chapters release of the BDs?
You can save a lot of space for the OP/ED since it’s always the same except for the first episode and any decent player supports them nowadays.
i guess ill following other group there is no reason files be larger and larger h264 was going to gives better quality at same sizes as old xvid was seriously lrn 2 encode
Question,i just was looking at the file info and realised that the audio sampling rate was 96kHz,not really sure, but since it’s probable that the source used 48 kHz is there a real quality gain over using 48 kHz?.
And comparing settings,I’m guessing this is the same encoder as the one who worked on Sora no Otoshimono,if that’s the case, what crf was used for that show?

I’m a quality whore so Bring on the quality.=) I gots plenty of HD space so file size doesn’t matter plus thanks for teh release.^^
